Several weeks of preparation finally came to a head on Saturday, the 4th of March when we attended the Northern Sling Exhibition. The event was held at the Octagon Centre in Sheffield with over 40 exhibitors. It was Jacq and Rose’s first ever exhibition and we were very excited to be launching a new product at the event.
With a car laden full of wraps, a clothes rail, shelving, bags and boxes we travelled the long 4.5hr drive from Reading to Leeds. An overnight stay with a family member meant that it was only an hours drive on the morning of the event. We spent an hour and a half setting up our stall before the doors opened at 10.00am.
There was a rush of people entering the hall with lots interest in some of the stalls that had new designs and colourways. We watched as everyone started trickling in amongst the stalls and we started chatting to people as they walked by.
We spoke to many people during the event some which had heard of us and some that hadn’t. We did lots of demonstrations to expectant parents and we spent time talking to people about the different patterns and weaves that we sell. We had our new babywearing box on display and we received lots of positive feedback about how it would make a lovely gift for new and expectant parents. More details about Jacq and Rose’s babywearing box can be found here.
Whilst we were at the event we received from Melliapis the first prototypes of our new Jacq and Rose ringslings. As we had some enquiries about when we were going to be launching ringslings we couldn’t resist the opportunity to let them be tried. It was brilliant to hear that they worked perfectly and we think you’ll agree the Tri design looked great too.
We were extremely grateful for the help and company of the stall holders around us. Everyone was helpful keeping an eye on our stall for small breaks and we enjoyed chatting with everyone. In particular, we enjoyed meeting and geeking with Feather & Hay about their beautiful wovens on the stall next to us. Plus we couldn’t resist watching the raffle to see lots of prizes including our Okenia Rose size 3 wrap being won. We were pleased to know that the money raised from the raffle will go to Light Sheffield, a charity which provides pre and postnatal support for new parents in Sheffield.
We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in organising the event but special thanks to Dr Rosie Knowles who has been very supportive and helpful in answering all of our questions in the lead up to the show. While it was a very long and tiring day we certainly enjoyed it and we’d love to return again in 2018 if it is held again!
We are now really looking forward to our next event, The Wrap Show which will be held on the 5th May at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London. Tickets for this event can be purchased here.
